Civilian casualties and damage inflicted upon civilian infrastructure as a result of Armenia’s act of aggression against Azerbaijan

Since September 27, 2020 the armed forces of Armenia have been targeting the civilian population, private houses and civilian infrastructure in Azerbaijan in a deliberate, widespread and systematic manner.

By doing so, Armenia grossly violates its obligations under international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions and its Additional Protocols as well as disregards the humanitarian ceasefire declared on October 10 and 18.

Starting from the morning of October 24, the armed forces of Armenia continued indiscriminately firing at residential areas at Barda, Goranboy, Naftalan and Tartar regions with rockets and heavy artillery. Moreover, Gubadli and Lachin regions were subjected to artillery fire from the territory of Armenia.

As a result of Armenia’s deliberate attacks, Ismayilzade Orkhan Rahbar oglu, born in 2004, was killed by 300 mm “Smerch” MLRS rocket in Kabirli village of Tartar region.

Another civilian – 13 years old Mayakov Artur Vasilyevich (national of Russia) – died in hospital he was placed in after being seriously wounded on October 17 as a result of Armenia’s ballistic missile strike to Ganja.

As of October 24 (noon time), in total 65 civilians, including children and elderly were killed, 298 civilians have been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Around 2000 private houses, more than 90 apartment buildings and 390 civilian infrastructures were damaged and became unserviceable as a result of Armenia’s deliberate, widespread and systematic attacks.

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) reports that as part of special operational emergency field visits between September 27 – October 23, 2020 due to Armenia’s attacks, the Agency found 282 unexploded ordnances (UXO), 1144 pieces of 300 mm “Smerch” fired 9N235 bomblets (cluster munition), 1180 bullets of various calibers, 2 missile schemes, 401 exploded missile parts and etc.
